IPL 2024 Playoffs: 2 teams out, fate of 3 left to others, real war between 5 teams, complete equation

New Delhi. The victory of Lucknow Supergiants over Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024 has cleared the equation of playoffs to a great extent. Mumbai Indians is almost out of the race for the playoffs. Lucknow Supergiants have come close to the playoffs by occupying the third position in the points table. KL Rahul’s team LSG defeated Mumbai Indians by 4 wickets on Tuesday. There is a match between Chennai Super Kings and Punjab Kings on Wednesday. This is a do or die match for Punjab Kings.

There have been 48 matches so far in IPL 2024. Rajasthan Royals have won the maximum number of 8 matches while Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore have won the least number of matches. IPL history shows that in the last two years, there was only one team which made it to the playoffs with 16 points. The remaining three teams had more than 16 points.

In this context, if we talk about IPL 2024, then the teams of Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore cannot reach 16 points. Even if both of them win their remaining four matches, they will still have a maximum of 14 points each. It is clear that both these teams are almost out of the race for the playoffs.

Punjab-Delhi-Gujarat depend on others
The fate of the three teams of IPL 2024 now depends on the victory or defeat of the other teams. The playoff hopes of Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings will now be decided by their win as well as the defeat of other teams. Even if these three teams win all their matches, they can reach only a maximum of 16 points. This means that the possibility of these three reaching the playoffs remains intact, but this will happen only if at least two or three of the top-5 teams of the points table lose most of their matches.

Real war taking place between 5 teams
The real battle for the playoffs of IPL 2024 is now seen only between five teams. These teams occupy the first five positions in the points table. If Rajasthan Royals wins even one of their remaining 5 matches, they will have 18 points. Kolkata Knight Riders and Lucknow Supergiants have 12 points each. If both these teams win 3 out of their remaining 5 matches, they will easily qualify for the playoffs. Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad currently have 10-10 points from 9-9 matches. It is believed that there is a real struggle between these two teams for the fourth team of the playoffs.
