IPL 2024 Highlights: KKR champions, shortest final, big win, more centuries-sixes, big scores… dozens of records broken

New Delhi. Kolkata Knight Riders has become the new champion of IPL. This team, led by Shreyas Iyer, made dozens of records in its journey to becoming the winner. Not only did it become the champion by losing the least number of matches (3), but it also restricted Sunrisers Hyderabad, which was intimidating with its stormy batting, to the lowest score in the final in IPL history.

This is KKR’s third title. It won the IPL for the first time in 2012. Two years later, it became the champion again in 2014. 10 years later, Kolkata Knight Riders won the title again. KKR is the most successful team in IPL after Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians. Chennai and Mumbai have won five titles each. The relationship between KKR’s title win and Gautam Gambhir is also interesting. KKR won the first two titles under Gambhir’s captaincy. Gautam Gambhir was the mentor of the team till it won the third title.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) crushed Sunrisers Hyderabad by 8 wickets in the final of IPL 2024. KKR first bundled out Hyderabad for 113 runs in 18.3 overs. Then achieved the target by losing just 2 wickets in 10.3 overs. Not a single batsman of Sunrisers could even touch the score of 25. Captain Pat Cummins was the top scorer of the team with 24 runs.

The final match between Kolkata and Hyderabad ended in just 29 overs. This is the record of the shortest final or playoff match in the 17-year history of IPL. KKR won the match with 57 balls remaining. This is the biggest margin of victory (with balls remaining) in an IPL final.

A total of 14 centuries were scored in IPL 2024. This is the record for most centuries in a single season of IPL. Earlier this record was of 12 centuries.

Similarly, 200 or more scores were made 41 times in IPL 2024. This is the record for the most 200+ scores in a season. In the same season, Sunrisers Hyderabad scored 287 runs against Royal Challengers Bangalore. This is the highest score in IPL history.

The record of most sixes (1260) was also made in this season of IPL. If we talk about the entire tournament, a total of 25971 runs were scored in the season. The strike rate in this was 9.56. This is also the record of highest strike rate in a season of IPL.
