IPL 2023: With the defeat from KKR, RCB recorded an embarrassing record


New Delhi. In the match played on Wednesday in IPL-2023, Royal Challengers Bangalore of Faf du Plessis had to face defeat at the hands of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR vs RCB). After this defeat, RCB’s team is in fifth place in the points table with 8 points. The team has won four out of eight matches and lost in the same number. Although, apart from RCB, Rajasthan Royals, Lucknow Supergiants and Punjab Kings also have eight points each, but Duplesey’s team has played one match more than the other three.

On the basis of net runrate, Rajasthan Royals are third, Lucknow Supergiants fourth, Royal Challengers Bangalore fifth and Punjab Kings sixth. Wednesday’s defeat for RCB became more ‘bitter’ when an embarrassing record was also recorded in the name of the team.

Batting first in this match, KKR scored 200 runs losing 5 wickets in 20 overs. This is the 24th time in the history of IPL when a score of 200 or more has been made against RCB, the highest number for any team. The RCB team has given the opposition team a chance to score 200 or more 11 times at their home ground Chinnaswamy Stadium itself.

This has happened three times in the current season itself.
Talking about IPL 2023, three times before Wednesday’s match, a score of 200 or more has been scored against RCB. KKR’s team has scored more than 200 (204 runs for 7 wickets) against RCB on 6th April. On 10th April Lucknow Supergiants (213/9) and on 17th April Chennai Superkings (226/6) scored 200+ against the team.

Virat scored ‘fifty’ in five matches
Talking about Wednesday’s match, it registered another achievement in the name of RCB’s leading batsman Virat Kohli. he/she played an inning of 54 runs in 37 balls in the match which included six fours. With this, Virat has become the second batsman to score five half-centuries in IPL 2023. Earlier, his/her own team captain Faf Duplesey had achieved this feat. Duplesey and Virat are currently occupying the first two positions in the Orange Cap race. While Duplesey has scored 422 runs (average 60.28) in eight innings with five fifties while remaining unbeaten once in eight innings, Virat has scored 333 runs (average 47.57) with the help of five half-centuries.

KKR won by 21 runs
Batting first in Wednesday’s match, KKR scored 200 runs losing 5 wickets in 20 overs with the help of Jason Roy’s 56, Venkatesh Iyer’s 31 and captain Nitish Rana’s 48 runs. In reply, RCB team could only manage 179 runs losing 8 wickets in 20 overs. Apart from Virat Kohli, only Mahipal Lomror (34 runs off 18 balls) and Dinesh Karthik (22 runs off 18 balls) could struggle. KKR spinner Suyash Sharma took two wickets and Varun Chakraborty took three wickets.
