iPhone 16 was produced and launched in Indian factories: Ashwini Vaishnav

Apple’s latest iPhone 16 is being produced and launched globally in Indian factories, Union Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Tuesday. he/she said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Make in India’ initiative is driving the manufacturing of iconic products for the world.

Apple on Monday announced the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus featuring Built for Apple Intelligence, an “easy-to-use personal intelligence system that understands individual context to deliver useful and relevant intelligence while protecting user privacy”.

This is the first time Apple has assembled its iPhone 16 Pro models outside China, marking a major change in the tech giant’s global production strategy.

“Apple’s latest iPhone 16 is being produced & launched globally in Indian factories! PM @narendramodi Ji’s ‘Make in India’ initiative is now driving the manufacturing of iconic products for the world,” Vaishnav said in a post on X.

The move underscores Apple’s strategic efforts to diversify its manufacturing base and increase global supply chain resilience.

According to GSM Arena, Apple’s decision to assemble its iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models in India reflects a broader trend of companies seeking to reduce their reliance on single countries for production.

Apple has been steadily expanding its production in India for the past seven years. This expansion is expected to increase India’s share of Apple’s total iPhone production from about 14 percent earlier this year to 25 percent by next year.

Apart from the iPhone 16 Pro, there are reports that Apple is planning to start producing the iPhone 17 exclusively in India.

By diversifying its production strategy, Apple aims to reduce the risks associated with overreliance on a single country, especially in light of geopolitical changes and supply chain uncertainties.
