Interview: You will definitely find the right partner at the right time, I don’t want to run after him/her – Nandish Sandhu

‘I have always lived my dreams. I don’t want that at the last moment when flashbacks of life come in front of my eyes, I regret that I couldn’t do this.’ This is what actor Nandish Singh Sandhu said, who left his/her hit career in TV and turned to films. Nandish, who received praise for his/her acting in the web series Jubilee and Andekhi, had an exclusive conversation with us:

Very few people have the courage to leave an established successful career and add a new color to their dreams. One such rare artist is Nandish Singh Sandhu. Nandish, famous in every household as Veer Singh Bundela in the serial Uttaran, left his/her successful innings in TV and turned to films to give a new flight to his/her acting career. his/her hard work paid off. After films like ‘Super 30’ and ‘Family of Thakurganj’, Nandish remained in the news for his/her acting in series like ‘Jubilee’ and ‘Undekhi’.

I learned not to be afraid of failure

How difficult was the decision to leave a successful career in TV and start afresh in films? On this Nandish says, ‘It was definitely a difficult decision. When I was doing TV, I was living a comfortable life, I was earning a regular income, leaving all that and deciding to improve my craft was difficult, but I am happy that I took that decision. If I had not done that, I would have regretted that I did not try and I do not want that. That is why whatever I feel like doing, I definitely try for it. Even if I do not succeed in it, but at the last moment when I get flashbacks, I should not regret that I did not try due to fear of failure. By the way, if it was possible that I could try for films while doing TV shows, then I would have done both together, but in our industry it does not happen that you can do films while doing TV. If you are a TV actor, then a thought is formed that if he/she is doing TV, then he/she must have a set pattern or he/she will not have time. This happens, when you are shooting for 25 days, when will you work on yourself? There is no time left for anything in daily soaps, so I was not growing at all, that is why I had to take a break from TV.

Playing a negative role for the first time was challenging

Nandish was praised a lot in Vikramaditya Motwane’s web series Jubilee, but his/her screen space was very less. Regarding this, Nandish says, ‘I knew from the beginning that my character is small, but it was the center of the entire show. Whatever is happening in the story is happening because of Jamshed, so I knew that it will have an impact on people. However, I did not anticipate that he/she would be liked so much. On the other hand, if we talk about Andekhi, my character Samarth joins the second season. The challenge for me was that since the rest of the characters of the show had already received so much love, there was a little fear whether people would accept this character or not, but it also got a lot of love. I became a part of it without disturbing the rhythm of the story. Another challenge for me was that I was playing a negative character for the first time. I had not done a negative role before this and all the characters in Andekhi are negative. In such a situation, how can they be more negative than them? That aspect was also challenging, I thought a lot for this.’

Did the decision to leave his/her established career in TV affect Nandish’s personal life, relationships, marriage? When asked this, he/she says, ‘Not at all. My family and parents fully support my decision. My close friends are still close. My family is with me.’ But does Nandish (after separation from Rashmi Desai) feel the lack of a partner in life? On this, he/she says, ‘I am happy with myself. I am happy in my life. I feel complete in myself. I believe that at the right time, you will definitely find the right partner. I do not want to run after her.’
