Actor Vikram Kochhar, who has traveled from theater to TV and films, is deeply connected to his/her work. he/she went to the bottom and realized every aspect of acting and then implemented it in his/her work. Be it Mathu of ‘Sacred Games’, Shanky Pandey of ‘Raktanchal’ or Baggu of ‘Dinky’. he/she considers acting as a very delicate art. It is said that if you do not put truth in it, it will reveal your artificiality in front of the audience. While acting, body, mind and breath should sync together in one flow, otherwise it will not be able to achieve the purity that is required. When Vikram Kochhar, who has the changing form of cinema, love for theater and experience in direction, came to Lucknow recently, he/she revealed many layers of his/her art in front of us.

It is also important for you to be famous

I always say that there is a very strange thing associated with acting. Here it is also important for you to be famous as a personality. I think as soon as it comes, it takes you away from life. Then you are not your normal self. Anyway, that’s what you have to do in films because you become like a mirror of the society. In fact, the reflection of the society as it is, its social and political setup is visible in cinema. If you see, there are more things in acting than entertainment. I try to add something of my own if there is something entertaining.

There are a lot of robots in Shahrukh Khan’s ‘Mannat’, ‘Dinky’ actor Vikram Kochhar said – security is like an airport.

i wanted to do my own theater

I wanted to do theatre, so I did films because there is no money in it, which you have to earn at any cost. I wanted to do my own theatre, so that there was no accountability in it. The control that is there in the theater that it should happen like this is not necessary. There is a hierarchy in theater also because there are restrictions in it. I think monopoly is created in theater also. After this, the theater runs only in name and it is not seen what is being offered. Anyone who is new to this will face problems. he/she knows that he/she will not get that much return financially. Whatever you put in, you will get less. If you do it your way, you will have to make a lot of compromises. This requires space, which is very expensive in Mumbai. With great difficulty you will find a quiet city. If you get all these things then you get the freedom to play freely. As of now, not yet but I will definitely get it in the future.

The audience will watch only if the work is interesting.

Now films are made according to second screen perspective. The first screen is the phone and the second screen can be your TV, cinema hall. Now you watch movies while watching mobile. When the movie is playing and you are watching the mobile phone, then the movies will be made from the perspective of the second screen only. The depth will be lost in them. The audience of our country is also overworked. Now the population is so much that people have to work 13-14 hours to earn their living. There is a lot of unemployment. Now how can anyone watch a film with this in mind? In such a situation, you have to create something interesting, only then the audience will concentrate on you.

No one will watch you unless your acting is interesting

The challenge in acting is that while presenting you have to make it interesting, otherwise no one will listen to you. This mixture is impossible in television because one has to work there every day. In such a situation, one cannot use so much brain. There is a possibility of this in films and web series. The script of the film is received first and it is shot after two months. I follow the script so that I can improve it further. After converting your character, you don’t have that much grip on the first or second day of shooting. The director also understands this and initially puts you in light scenes. The outcome of the first day will be of four-five minutes, whereas the film is of two to two and a half hours. It may take 30 days to a year to make it. The actor has a lot of time to perfect his/her lines and sarcasm. There are also some techniques as to how you will change the words, how to make them to the point. It’s fun when you get to do this.

I was not a very good actor

My theater started with direction. I was not a very good actor. There was more interest in direction. In the second year of NSD, I decided to do an acting course. Skills are taught more in acting. I wanted a man who could hold me and clean me. Make you work hard physically. According to me, this is the best course of NSD. When I started acting, I felt that it would take some time to get the hang of it. Only when it sits will you get success. This conflict between artistic satisfaction and success requires a lot of patience. After the lockdown, people recognized him/her a bit and ‘Dinky’ got a bit of a boost because it is commercial. If you do something again and again, people will definitely notice it. This was my stubbornness, which people started noticing. Now it has to be made a little more intense. It has to be caught in just the right amount. Once I become completely proficient in this, I will gradually move towards direction.

There is a strange struggle going on inside.

There is an insistence that I do not want to repeat myself. This is the fun. Otherwise how will you get experience? The kick of being an artist is to experience a lot. Earlier, I did not want to study, so I used to make friends sit and teach them and listen to them. During that time I controlled my sleep because I fall asleep while listening. Worked on it because you’re not like that. The body is going separate, the mind is going separate, it is necessary to bring them in sync. Jerzy Grotowski, a Polish acting teacher, has the only training method based on modern theatre. The rest are techniques. It says that when your body and breath are in sync, you are completely in flow. There are ways to do it. Jarji says an actor should be truthful. When you understand this and someone asks you to take a photo, you think that I am doing everything for them only. Then the knowledge would come from behind that if the photo is given to everyone then what would be the value? There is also talk of becoming a worker from within. In such a situation, a strange struggle continues.

Lucknow has depth as well as accuracy

My relationship with Lucknow is not just with food but with the atmosphere here. To be honest, the city of nawabs is like a feeling. Here in itself there is departure along with nobility. The city exudes intelligence as people ask questions and talk. There is depth and precision in his/her conversation. Still I would say that people of Lucknow and Delhi are very judgmental. They tend to be judgmental at times before accepting things with open arms. In such a situation, the process of arrival of things gets delayed. However, it is more in Delhi. The people of Lucknow have a very deep connection with the heart. I also feel in danger because the people here are emotional. I work as an artist. In a city like Mumbai, there is a lot of talk, everything is practical there.
