Interview: Urfi Javed said- as long as you blame the victim, these crimes will keep happening

Urfi Javed, who is always in the headlines, is in the news these days for her new reality show ‘Follow Kar Lo Yaar’ on OTT. Here she answers many tough questions in her candid style. Regarding this, ‘presswire18 Times’ also talked to her on many issues:

You can hate her or love her, but you cannot ignore her. We are talking about Urfi Javed, who is called the sensation of social media and who stirs up new controversies every day. Although she always makes headlines, but these days she is especially in the news for her new reality show ‘Follow Kar Lo Yaar’ on OTT. In this show, she answers many tough questions in her candid style. Here is a special conversation with her:

You are constantly accused of tarnishing Indian culture by your attire. Do people believe that the new generation can get misled by idolising you?

-I don’t understand. Those who are saying this, how much do they themselves follow Indian culture, our culture? Hey brother, what is Indian culture? Someone sit and explain it to me. People keep saying anything. How do I keep spoiling Indian culture? The era in which we are living today is the era of internet and in today’s date internet is very cheap. I am not spoiling anything. Whatever is happening outside, we are consuming that too. Everything is on the internet. Nothing is going to happen whether I do it or not. As far as idolizing is concerned, the new generation can also get inspired by Hollywood and Bollywood. So many contradictory things are said about me. First you say, ‘Who will follow this?’ Then you say, ‘People may change after following me,’ sorry, they may get spoiled. Whoever wants to get spoiled will do so. Whoever does not want to, will not. Look at me or do not look at me.

Whoever wants to be spoilt will do so. Whoever does not want to be spoilt will not be spoilt. Look at me or do not look at me. I am not spoiling any Indian culture.

You started your career from the small screen. How was that period for you?

– To be honest, I did not like working on TV that much. I have worked 60-60 hours on TV without a break. Sometimes they make us shoot for 3-4 days, sleep for 2 hours and then work. Then sleep for 2 hours and then work. But there is no respect in this, they disrespect you a lot. I feel that if you are not the main lead or a very famous actor, then no one understands you on TV. This is the reason why I did not like the small screen that much and there is a lot of politics on the set. I felt that I cannot be a part of all this.

navbharat timesOpinion: Urfi gets irritated on seeing Javed? If you see him/her for 4 hours, your thinking will change, you will also say- follow him/her friend!

People say that after starting from TV, you took the shortcut route of taking off your clothes to become famous?

To be honest, I had no other option but to take this path. If people think this is a shortcut, then you should also take this path. Take off your clothes and become famous. If you know that you are getting success from this and I have adopted this method, then you should also adopt it. Who is stopping you? The truth is that people do not know how much hard work is required, how much blood and sweat is shed for success. Despite this, success and fame are not guaranteed.

I have heard about many incidents from your childhood due to which you were tortured, but is there any incident that you have not forgotten?

-My life is full of wounds. But there is one incident which I have not been able to forget even today. I was very young at that time and my photos were uploaded on a porn site. When I went to the police station at that time, the policemen also spoke very badly to me. They said, if you are so modern, then this is what will happen to you, right? If you wear red lipstick, then this is what will happen, right? Now the policemen were saying this, so you think.

Girls are generally judged. They are also blamed for heinous incidents of molestation and rape. Recently, people are very angry due to Kolkata rape case and Badlapur molestation case.

-Victim blaming has been going on since forever. Earlier, when a woman was raped, people used to say that she has lost her dignity. Hey, you are not saying anything to the person who raped her and you are talking about the woman who was raped losing her dignity. If something wrong has happened to the woman, then what is her fault in this? The one who has committed this misdeed is wrong. Till the time we keep blaming the victim instead of the criminal, crimes will not stop. I don’t think rape can end from the world. If the weaker gender of the society is a woman, then it is easy for you to suppress her. I think, rape is not a lust issue anyway. It is a power issue. Men think that they are superior to women. We can torture women, we can do whatever we want. This is a power problem. If you want to stop the torture of women, then you will have to make very strict laws. Only then will men fear punishment. Only then will there be some improvement.

Men think they are superior to women. We can harass women, we can do whatever we want. This is a power problem.

Urfi Javed

Do you ever get such threats?

-Why only me, every celebrity gets such threats. I also get many. If you want to scare a woman, the easiest thing is to threaten her with molestation or rape, because he/she knows that after that the woman will be left with nothing, so many men resort to such threats to threaten girls. I think strict laws should also be made regarding threats received on social media.

Talking about your reality show, some are calling it your honest effort, but some are calling it a cheap copy of Kim Kardashian’s show. What would you say on this?

-So what if it is a cheap copy? They have a huge budget, ours is cheaper, so what to do? We did not have the budget. If the budget increases, it will become a first copy. This is not the first. Before this, Gauhar Khan and Nigaar Khan’s ‘Khan Sisters’ show had come, Malaika Arora’s show has also come. There have been many such examples before. The thing is that there are many similarities in my and Kim’s life. We are brother-sister, I am also popular, she is also popular. Due to the similarities between us, people are comparing us, but I would definitely like to say that I have presented my life honestly in front of everyone.

What kind of feedback have you received from the industry for your reality show?

-Very good. Ananya Pandey, Neha Dhupia, Ritesh-Genelia, Farah Khan messaged me, while Sophie Choudhary, Bharti Singh, Samantha Ruth etc. posted stories for me.
