Intel major layoffs: Chip manufacturing giant Intel has announced that it will lay off a large number of its employees. This clearly shows that people will lose their jobs in many countries. India can also be one of these countries. Due to this big announcement of the company, the jobs of many people are now in danger. The jobs of about 15,000 employees are in danger. However, it is not clear yet how many jobs will be lost in which country.

Intel announces layoffs

Regarding the layoffs, CEO Pat Gelsinger wrote in a memo to employees, “This is a tough day for all of us, and there are more tough days ahead. But as difficult as all of this is, we are making the changes necessary to continue our progress and begin a new era of growth.” he/she further added, “We plan to save $10 billion in costs by 2025, and that includes reducing our workforce by approximately 15,000 employees, or 15 percent of our workforce.”

Next week, the company will announce a retirement offer for eligible employees and offer an application program for voluntary departures more broadly. Acknowledging that revenues have not grown as expected, he/she said, “We have not yet realized the full benefits of powerful trends like AI. Our costs are too high, our margins are too low. We need to take more bold action to address both.”

The company reported a 1 percent drop in revenue for the second quarter compared to the same period last year. Gelsinger told employees that annual revenue in 2020 was about $24 billion higher than the previous year, yet “our current workforce is actually 10 percent larger than it is now.” According to the company, layoffs and other measures will reduce their 2025 expenses by $10 billion.
