India’s batting coach said – We do not get the pitch prepared, it is the curator’s wish.

Mumbai Questions are being raised after the defeat of the Indian cricket team in the home series against New Zealand. India’s assistant coach Abhishek Nair said that he/she does not get the pitch prepared as per his/her requirement in Test matches. Also supporting the out-of-form veteran Virat Kohli and captain Rohit Sharma, he/she said that they should be given more time to make a comeback. After losing the Test series at home for the first time in 12 years, India will try to save its face in the third and final Test against New Zealand from Friday.

Playing on a pitch conducive to spinners, India lost the second Test in Pune by 113 runs. There are speculations that the pitch at Wankhede Stadium may again be favorable for spinners. Nair denied that spin-friendly pitches were being made for the best performance of the team. Nair said, “I wish we could get the pitches prepared as per our requirement but we don’t do that.” Curators do this. Whatever pitch is given to us, we play (be it a pitch conducive to fast bowling or a turn pitch). As cricketers and as a team, we play on what we are given. We don’t try to create situations as per our wish.

Both Rohit and Kohli are struggling with poor form and this has affected the team’s performance. Nair said that there is nothing wrong with these great players of modern times and they just need some time and support. “I have seen nothing but love for him/her everywhere,” he/she said. When a top player goes through difficult times, sometimes it is about giving them time and believing that they will bounce back. They will work hard.

Nair said, “Everyone has worked hard. Everyone wants to perform well. Be it Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma or a young player like Shubman Gill. There are efforts. The perspective is very good. I think they are working hard. Sometimes you have to have some patience. Even with the greatest players, they can have tough times. I am sure that soon, we will have a lot more to praise about Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma and everyone else. Just need to have some patience.
