Indians are showering ‘love’ on Canada-America, 50% students took admission in these two countries in 5 years

Indian students abroad: From 2019 to 2023, 29,33,899 students have gone to countries across the world. Of these, 49% students (14,33,469) have gone to only two countries, Canada and America. At the same time, in 2023, 52.40% students have stated that the purpose of going to these two countries is education only. According to the information given by the Bureau of Immigration (BOI), the number of Indian students going to many Asian countries including China, Japan, Singapore has decreased as compared to 2019. At the same time, the number of Indian students has increased in America, Canada, England, Australia and Germany. This information has been given by the Education Ministry itself after the questions asked in the current winter session.
According to the ministry, campuses of foreign universities are now being opened in India too. University Grants Commission i.e. UGC has also issued regulations and talks are going on between UGC and senior officials of many universities of Australia. The first foreign campus in India under UGC regulations will be of Britain’s University of Southampton, in which studies will start from July 2025. Apart from this, the Indian campus of two Australian universities has been formally inaugurated in the Gift City of Gandhinagar in Gujarat. Many agreements are being signed between higher institutions of Australia in the field of education.

Britain also included in top-3 countries to study abroad

7,35,050 students have gone to America from 2019 to 2023. Canada is at second place, where 6,98,419 students have gone, England has 4,28,998 students. In this way, 64% of the students have gone to these three countries in the last 5 years. Where the number of Indian students is increasing in Australia. At the same time, this number is decreasing in New Zealand, a country near Australia. Indian students are going to almost every country.

2019 vs 2023: Students increased in European countries but decreased in Asian countries.

Where 1.22 lakh students went to America 5 years ago in 2019, this number will increase to 2.34 lakh in 2023. In Canada this number increased from 1.32 lakh to 2.33 lakh. The number has also increased in British universities. Only 36,612 students went to Britain 5 years ago, whose number has increased to 1.36 lakh this time. In 2023, 78093 students have gone to Australia, 23296 to Germany.

If we look at Asian countries, 19,170 students went to China 5 years ago, which has now reduced to 7,279. In Japan this number has come down to 1219. The number of students going to Malaysia has reduced to 3437. In Singapore this number decreased from 15 thousand to 12 thousand. 6,611 students went to UAE. In Sri Lanka this number has come down to 454. 531 students went to Nepal.

Which country stands where in QS ranking?

America’s Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is at number one among the top 10 universities of the world. Imperial College of London comes next. Harvard University and Oxford University are at third place, Cambridge University at 5th, Stanford University at sixth, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology at seventh place.

If we look at QS World University Rankings-Asia, China’s Peking University is at number one. After that there is the University of Hong Kong. The University of Singapore is at number three and four. In the top 10, there are 4 universities from China, 3 from Hong Kong, 2 from Singapore and 1 from South Korea.
