Indian team was targeted, spectators misbehaved during practice

Adelaide. The Indian cricket team is now being targeted after winning the Perth Test. Fans will no longer be allowed in India’s practice sessions in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series against Australia. The players faced problems due to ‘indecent’ comments from some spectators during the team’s practice before the second Test starting on Friday. It was opened for practice session on Tuesday.

While a limited number of spectators had come to watch Australia’s practice session, thousands of people gathered to watch the Indian team. The practice facilities in Adelaide are very close to the spectators. An official of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) told PTI on condition of anonymity, “It was complete chaos. Not more than 70 people came during the Australian practice session, but around 3000 people were present during the Indian session. No one expected so many fans to come.

“There was another fan day in Sydney (before the fifth Test), which has been canceled because the players were deeply hurt by the rude and insensitive comments made there,” he/she said.

An eyewitness said that the fan instigated players like Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant to hit sixes. Some fans made rude comments on the fitness of the team players. he/she said, “Virat (Kohli) and Shubman Gill could have been surrounded because of so many people. Some people were doing Facebook Live with their friends and talking loudly while the batsman was playing. A spectator was continuously requesting a player to say ‘hi (greeting)’ in Gujarati. Another player was making derogatory comments about a particular player’s body.
