New Delhi: The Government of India on Friday encroached 782.81 hectares of railway land in different parts of the country and a total of 38.64 hectares of land has been freed from encroachment during the last three years. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav gave this information in Parliament in a written reply to a question. he/she told the Rajya Sabha that ‘as on March 31, 2022, out of 4.86 lakh hectares of rail land in different parts of the country, a total of 782.81 hectares (0.16 percent) of rail land is under encroachment’.
‘Temporary encroachment is removed’
The Railway Minister said that regular surveys are conducted by the Railways and action is taken to remove encroachments. “If the encroachments are of temporary nature in the form of shanties, hutments and squatter settlements, they are removed with the help of Railway Protection Force and local civic authorities,” he/she said. he/she said that the old encroachments, which are in the form of rigid encroachments, if the parties cannot be persuaded and convinced, then action is taken from time to time under the concerned law.
Railway opposes this thing of the state government
Vaishnav said that due to the continuous efforts of Railways, a total of 38.64 hectares of land has been made free from encroachment during the last three years. he/she said that the Railways always opposes the decision of the State Government to provide water, electricity connection and other civic amenities to the illegal occupants of railway land.
