Indian blind team did not get approval from the Ministry of External Affairs to go to Pakistan


New Delhi. There is an uproar in Pakistan regarding the Indian team’s participation in the ICC Champions Trophy to be held next year. Meanwhile, the Indian cricket team has withdrawn its name from the Blind T20 World Cup. According to reports, the Ministry of External Affairs did not give approval for the visit to Pakistan. The Sports Ministry had issued a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) but the final approval from the government was not received.

Indian Blind Cricket Association general secretary Sailendra Yadav confirmed that the Ministry of External Affairs has directed the team to withdraw from the event. This tournament is to be held in Pakistan from 23 November to 3 December. For the first time, Pakistan will host the Blind T20 World Cup which will be held from 23 November to 3 December 2024. Teams from Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, South Africa, Nepal and Afghanistan will participate in this tournament.

This decision has been taken at a time when the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has refused the International Cricket Council (ICC) to allow its team to go to the Champions Trophy to be held in Pakistan. The future of the 50-over tournament is uncertain without India, the Pakistan Blind Cricket Council (PBCC) has indicated. Blind T20 World Cup can happen even without the Indian team. PBCC Chairman Syed Sultan Shah also informed that visas were issued for Indian players.

India is the current champion of the tournament. The Indian team has won the last three tournaments played in 2012, 2017 and 2022. In the final of the last tournament, India defeated Bangladesh by 120 runs. India scored a huge score of 277/2 and restricted Bangladesh to 157/3. This match took place at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
