Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi reaches Japan on his/her first foreign tour, know which special issues will be discussed

New Delhi : Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi has reached Japan in his/her first foreign tour as Army Chief. This visit is till 17th October. This visit is important in view of the ever-growing partnership between India and Japan to deal with China. However, earlier Army Chiefs have been visiting neighboring countries on their first foreign tour.

India-Japan relations will strengthen

The Indian Army said that General Dwivedi’s visit to Japan is an important step towards strengthening defense cooperation between India and Japan. The Army Chief will discuss India-Japan relations at the Indian Embassy in Tokyo. Will communicate with senior officers of the Japanese Army in the Defense Ministry of Japan. The objective of these discussions will be to further strengthen military cooperation between India and Japan. Also includes a visit to the General Dwivedi National Institute of Defense Studies. he/she will visit the Fuji School with the Japan Ground Self Defense Force. he/she will visit Hiroshima, where he/she will pay homage at the Hiroshima Peace Park and the statue of Mahatma Gandhi.

Earlier, the Army Chief chose neighboring countries for his/her first foreign tour. When General Bipin Rawat became the Army Chief, he/she first visited Nepal and Bangladesh. When General MM Naravane became Chief, he/she went to Myanmar. General Manoj Pandey went to Bangladesh in his/her first foreign tour. At present, the Japanese Navy is exercising with the Indian Navy in the Bay of Bengal. This is the Malabar exercise in which the navies of the Quad countries (India, America, Japan, Australia) are involved.

Both India and Japan are important countries in the Indo-Pacific region. The governments of both the countries have been saying that strengthening India-Japan defense partnership is very important to ensure a free, open, inclusive and prosperous Indo-Pacific region in the current global environment. Also, both India and Japan are worried about their neighboring country China and the threat from China is increasing for both of them because China claims the territory of both the countries. Japan and India have come together to counter China and in recent times, military exercises of both the countries have also increased continuously.
