India will test P-75 (I) in Spain this month, this Navy project is very special

New Delhi: The Indian Navy will go to Spain to test the equipment required for its Project 75 India. Under this project, India will get six modern submarines. Ricardo Dominguez Garcia-Baquero, chairman of Spanish company Navantia, said that both the Spanish government and the Navy are very keen to take India’s Project 75 (I) forward and are ready to help in every possible way. he/she said, ‘This includes giving fast export approval, making a comprehensive agreement with the Indian government, just like the recent deal of Airbus’ C-295 transport aircraft with the Indian company (Tata).’

Testing will be done this month
The Indian Navy will test the Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) system at Navantia’s shipyard in Cartagena, Spain in the last week of June. Navantia’s chairman said that both his/her company and Indian partner L&T are fully prepared for this test. India wants to buy six modern conventional submarines, which are equipped with AIP system. With the help of this system, submarines will be able to stay underwater for a longer time than the previous generation submarines.

What is special about this design?
Apart from the deal between L&T and Navantia, German company ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems and Mazagon Dock Shipyard Limited (MDL) are also eyeing this project worth more than Rs 60,000 crore. Navantia has presented the design of its submarine named S80 for this project of the Indian Navy. This is the same S80 submarine that was inducted by the Spanish Navy in 2023. Navantia claims that the special thing about the S80 design is that it meets almost all the requirements of the Indian Navy’s Project 75 (I) without any changes.

Many technologies are included in the S80 submarine
The Navantia chairman said that the S80 submarine to be delivered to the Indian Navy includes many advanced technologies, such as the third generation BEST AIP (bio-ethanol stealth technology) and advanced sensor suite. he/she said, “L&T and Navantia have tied up with a partner to provide a proven lithium-ion battery technology for the project.” The Spanish government is also very keen on this project. The Navantia chairman said that in the last few months, many senior officials of the Spanish government have met their Indian counterparts and expressed their full commitment to the project.
