India, UAE discuss ways to deepen comprehensive strategic partnership




Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra on Tuesday met with Reem Ibrahim Al Hashimi, Minister of State for International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates, and discussed ways to further deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.

During the meeting in Delhi, Vinay Kwatra and Reem Ibrahim Al Hashimi reviewed the entire gamut of multifaceted bilateral relations.

In a post on Twitter, Randhir Jaiswal, official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), said, “Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra met MoS (International Cooperation) @Moufoue Reem Al Hashimi in New Delhi today. They reviewed the entire gamut of our multifaceted bilateral relations and discussed ways to further deepen the India-UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Earlier this month, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had said that the perception of India in the Gulf country has changed to a great extent in the last 10 years.

Speaking at the South Gujarat Chamber of Commerce – Corporate Summit 2024 in Surat on Monday, Jaishankar said, “In the last 10 years, the perception about India in the UAE has changed. They signed a free trade agreement with us and today trade with the UAE has reached about $80 billion.”

He underlined, “Our request to build a temple there has been accepted…Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the UAE in 2016 and the last Prime Minister to visit the UAE was Indira Gandhi and after that no Prime Minister visited there till 2016. Went.”

The iconic BAPS Hindu Temple, which is the first Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi, was inaugurated by Mahant Swami Maharaj on February 14 in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UAE Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, Sheikh Nahyan Mabarak Al Nahyan.

According to the press release of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, earlier in 2022, India and the United Arab Emirates signed a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which aims to increase the merchandise trade between the two countries to US$ 100 billion over the next five years.
