India supports early ceasefire in Gaza, Jaishankar meets Saudi Foreign Minister

New Delhi : India and Saudi Arabia discussed the Israel-Hamas conflict on Wednesday. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said New Delhi supports resolution of the Palestinian issue through an early ceasefire in Gaza and a two-state solution. Jaishankar, in a meeting with his/her Saudi counterpart Prince Faisal bin Farhan, said India condemns terrorist acts, but any response to the October 7 terrorist attacks would have to take into account international humanitarian law.

Describing Saudi Arabia as ‘an important force for stability’ in West Asia, Jaishankar said the situation in West Asia is a matter of deep concern, especially the conflict in Gaza. Pointing to India’s principled stance on the conflict, he/she said, “While we condemn terrorism and hostage-taking incidents, we are deeply saddened by the continued deaths of innocent civilians.” Jaishankar said any response would comply with international humanitarian law. We support an early ceasefire.

External Affairs Minister Jaishankar wrote in a tweet, Happy to co-chair with Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia Faisal bin Farhan the second meeting of the PSSC, the Political, Security, Social and Cultural Cooperation Committee under our Strategic Partnership Council, in Delhi today. The External Affairs Minister wrote that there was a fruitful discussion on our multi-dimensional bilateral relations including defense partnership, security cooperation, trade and investment, culture, tourism and youth exchanges and people-to-people contacts.

he/she said we also exchanged views on regional and international issues, especially the ongoing conflict in West Asia and our joint efforts at various multilateral fora. Jaishankar said India stands for resolution of the Palestinian issue through a two-state solution. Contributed to the building of Palestinian institutions.

India’s partnership with Saudi

Jaishankar said that Saudi Arabia’s ‘Vision 2030’ and India’s Developed India 2047 are complementary to create new partnerships for the industries of both the countries. he/she said that trade and investment are important pillars of our partnership. We are strengthening our cooperation in new areas including technology, energy, renewable energy including green hydrogen, connectivity, health and education. he/she said that the number of Indian community in Saudi Arabia is 26 lakh. The External Affairs Minister said that I take this opportunity to thank you for their welfare and convenience. Al Saud is on a two-day visit to India.
