India-China relations cannot become normal without peace being restored on the border, Jaishankar said in Lok Sabha


New Delhi: Foreign Minister S Jaishankar spoke openly on relations between India and China. The External Affairs Minister said in the Lok Sabha that India is committed to continuing talks with China to resolve the border dispute. he/she stressed that unless there is peace on the border, India-China relations cannot be normal. Relations between the two countries have not been normal since 2020. Due to the actions of China, peace was disturbed in the border areas.

Jaishankar gave update on India-China relations

Foreign Minister Jaishankar informed the Lok Sabha on Tuesday about the agreement signed with China a few weeks ago to reduce tensions. he/she said that the stand of this government is clear that peace on the border is necessary for the development of relations with China. Jaishankar said that recent developments reflecting the continued diplomatic partnership have moved India-China relations towards some improvement. We are committed to continuing dialogue with China to resolve the border dispute. We want an agreement that is acceptable to both countries.

Issue of restoration of peace in border areas raised

Jaishankar said that the government believes that India-China relations cannot be normal without restoration of peace in the border areas. For this, it is important that we keep our stand clear on this matter and at the same time, make a clear strategy on all aspects of our relationships. he/she further said that we have always made it clear that restoration of peace will be the foundation of future relations.

Agreements signed between the two countries in October this year

The Indian Foreign Minister said that the basic priority was to withdraw the security forces from the conflict points and success has been achieved in this. We are clear that restoration of peace on the border will be the basis for taking forward overall relations. The Foreign Minister said that due to such tension on the border, relations with China could not remain normal. India and China had agreed to a deal for patrolling along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh in October this year.

Relations had deteriorated after the Galvan incident.

Jaishankar said that in April-May 2020, China had deployed a large number of troops in eastern Ladakh. Due to this, soldiers of both the countries came face to face at many places. After the clash in Galwan Valley, the situation became even more serious. Not only were lives lost, but heavy weapons also had to be deployed. However, some improvement has been achieved recently through diplomatic talks.

Jaishankar praised the Indian Army fiercely

Jaishankar praised the Indian Army and said that despite all the challenges and the Covid pandemic, they fought the Chinese soldiers bravely. A Chinese Defense Ministry spokesperson also said the two countries have made ‘considerable progress’ in agreeing on troop withdrawal and patrolling. It has also been reported in some reports that the withdrawal of troops from Eastern Ladakh has been completed and on Diwali, soldiers of both the countries will exchange sweets.
