India-China Agreement: What is ‘Verification Patrolling’, which Indian Army is doing in Depsang-Demchok areas, know everything

New Delhi: A good news has come amid the ongoing tension between India and China in eastern Ladakh. An agreement was reached between the two countries on October 21, after which ‘verification patrolling’ has now started. This patrolling is taking place in Depsang and Demchok areas, where soldiers of both the countries were face to face.

Patrolling started in Demchok

According to defense sources, the Indian Army has started patrolling in Demchok after informing the Chinese Army (PLA). This patrolling is taking place under the arrangement decided by both the countries. It was after this agreement that the first formal bilateral meeting took place between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Kazan (Russia) on 23 October.

Talks will continue at ministerial level

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that you are aware that the final phase of disengagement was agreed between India and China on October 21, 2024. As a result, verification patrolling has commenced in Depsang and Demchok on mutually agreed terms. We will keep you updated. he/she further said that as agreed in the meeting in Kazan, talks will continue at the level of foreign ministers and other officials to normalize relations between the two countries.

Chinese soldiers used to stop earlier

Modi and Xi Jinping also agreed to resume talks between special representatives on the India-China border issue, which had been stalled for the last five years. Defense sources said that now our army troops have got access to five patrolling points (PP) in Depsang and two in Demchok without any hindrance. Earlier Chinese soldiers used to stop them. To avoid any kind of conflict, PLA has also started its patrolling by giving us advance information.

What is verification patrolling?

Verification Patrol is a process in which soldiers of both the countries ensure that the agreements reached on the border are being followed. Recently, verification patrolling has started between India and China in Demchok and Depsang areas of eastern Ladakh. The main objective of this patrolling is to ensure that troops from both sides have retreated from the disputed areas and peace is maintained on the border.
