India became active before Donald Trump’s oath, Jaishankar will meet the team of the new US President

New Delhi : The date of oath of the new President in America is approaching. In such a situation, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is on a visit to America to meet members of the Biden administration as well as key members of Trump 2.0. During this, he/she can discuss the priorities of the incoming administration and India’s expectations for the next four years. Before Jaishankar’s visit, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri met Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell and Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources at the Foggy Bottom headquarters of the State Department. Had a meeting with Foreign Minister Richard Verma. Our associate newspaper Economic Times was the first to report that Jaishankar and Misri will visit America this month. Will also talk to members of the new Trump administration.

Quad summit on India’s agenda

Quad summit is included in the agenda of Jaishankar and Misri. India is going to host it in 2025. ICET, situation in South Asia, Khalistani militancy and defense partnership will be the major issues in this. Discussions with the Trump team, in addition to the President’s focus on trade and tariffs, are likely to center around partnership on technology, geopolitics and geoeconomics against the backdrop of the Israel-Palestine conflict and the Russia-Ukraine war.

Trade between India and America

Richard Verma, in a presentation on ‘US-India relations: As per the data’ at a round table conference, said bilateral trade is expected to grow from $20 billion in 2000 to $195 billion in 2023, while defense trade will grow to zero in the same period. Has increased from 24 billion dollars to 24 billion dollars. he/she said bilateral trade is expected to cross the $200 billion mark in 2024.

The number of Indian students in the US is expected to increase from just 54,664 in 2000 to more than 330,000 in 2023. Whereas the population of Indian immigrants has increased from 19 lakh in 2000 to more than 50 lakh now. Verma said the Biden-Harris administration has appointed a record number of 130 Indian Americans to senior positions.

he/she said that India is America’s top military exercise partner today. he/she said that America is the biggest source of remittances to India. Verma said that one-fifth of the unicorn founders or co-founders in America are Indian immigrants.

America’s pressure on Bangladesh

Ahead of Jaishankar’s visit, US NSA Jake Sullivan called Mohammad Yunus, chief advisor to Bangladesh’s interim regime. he/she called for protecting the ‘human rights of all people regardless of religion’ in the backdrop of increasing attacks on minorities.

Additionally, US Principal Deputy National Security Advisor John Finer, Campbell and India’s Ambassador to the US Vinay Kwatra visited the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas last week. Its objective is to mark the important progress made by both the countries towards strengthening space cooperation including ICET.
