Union Home Minister Amit Shah met Bangladesh Home Minister Asaduzzaman Kan on the sidelines of ‘No Money for Terror’ conference, the home ministry said in a tweet. Both sides discussed issues related to border management and general security.

Khan is here to participate in the third ministerial ‘No Money for Terror’ conference organized by the Ministry of Home Affairs. It is a two day conference. On Friday, 450 delegates from more than 75 countries and international organizations took part in the conference.

Earlier, addressing the conference, Shah said that terrorism is the most serious threat to global peace and security, but terror financing is even more dangerous. He said that darknet is being used by terrorists to spread radical content. This has seen an increase in the use of cryptocurrencies. Shah said that there is a need to find a solution to the darknet pattern.

Shah further said, despite progress in security infrastructure and financial system, terrorists are finding new ways to radicalize youth and raise economic resources.

The Union Home Minister said, we believe that the menace of terrorism cannot and should not be linked to any religion, nationality or group. We have made significant progress in strengthening the security infrastructure and legal and financial systems to combat terrorism. Despite this, terrorists are constantly finding new ways to perpetrate violence, radicalize youth and increase their financial resources.

He further said, terrorists are using darknet to spread radical material and hide their identity. In addition there has been an increase in the use of virtual assets such as cryptocurrencies. It is necessary to understand the pattern of these darknet activities and find a solution.

Shah said that virtual assets are a new challenge before us. New methods of financial transactions are being used by terrorists. We need to act coherently to crack down on virtual asset channels, funding structures and the use of the darknet.

In the conference, the Union Home Minister targeted the countries without naming them, who want to obstruct the collective resolve to fight terrorism. Shah said, unfortunately there are countries that want to weaken our collective resolve to fight terrorism, want to create obstacles. He further said, we have seen that some countries protect and shelter terrorists, protecting a terrorist is tantamount to promoting terrorism. It will be our collective responsibility that such elements never succeed in their designs.
