India arrested the officer accused of conspiring to murder Pannu, what will happen next?


New Delhi : India has arrested an intelligence officer accused of trying to assassinate Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Pannu in America. India has informed America about this. India has said that this officer is no longer in service. India says the high-level investigation committee formed after the allegations is continuing to investigate the man’s other ties. In this regard, the Indian investigation team will also go to America to discuss the investigation. The special thing is that the news of this arrest from India came at a time when a big defense deal is about to be signed between India and America.

The accused is no longer in service

Earlier, the US Department of Justice had identified the officer as a serving officer of the Indian government. The man was charged as directing the alleged murder plot against Gurpatwant Singh Pannu in New York in June 2023. Pannu is a designated terrorist in India. Pannu holds American citizenship. In a news story in April this year, The Washington Post identified the officer as Vikram Yadav.

America expressed happiness

The HT report quoted an American official as saying that America is happy with the steps taken by India. The official said that we are encouraged by the fact that this person is no longer a government employee. We are also told that he/she has been arrested on local charges. The Indian investigation committee is going to Washington DC and will also meet officials here.

America said that the Indian government has taken the allegations seriously. These steps reflect the seriousness with which both governments are trying to fix accountability. The official confirmed that there has been ‘frequent’ and ongoing engagement between US National Security Advisor (NSA) Jake Sullivan and Indian NSA Ajit Doval, as well as officials at various levels of the two governments.
