India alliance refuses to help the pro tem speaker, chaos ensues even before the parliament session begins

New Delhi: The first session of the Lok Sabha in the third term of the Modi government is going to start from June 24. Even before the start of this session, the opposition India Alliance has expressed its intentions. Even before the election of the Speaker, the India Alliance has raised objections to the selection of the Protem Speaker. Now the news is coming out that the opposition leaders nominated to assist the Protem Speaker (temporary Speaker) of the Lok Sabha are considering rejecting this responsibility. The opposition has accused the Congress of ignoring eight-time Lok Sabha MP Kodikunnil Suresh for the Protem Speaker. After BJP MP Bhartruhari Mahtab was made the Protem Speaker in place of Kodikunnil Suresh, the India Alliance may now reject Mahtab’s role of assisting in administering oath to new members.Which MPs were included in the panel?
Mahtab, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Odisha’s Cuttack Lok Sabha seat, was appointed the pro tem speaker by President Draupadi Murmu under Article 95 (1) of the Constitution to discharge the duties of the Speaker until the election of the Speaker on June 26. The President also named a panel of senior MPs to assist Mahtab, which included MPs from three opposition parties – Congress leader K Suresh, Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Sudip Bandopadhyay and DMK MP TR Baalu. BJP leaders Radha Mohan Singh and Faggan Singh Kulaste are also named in the list.

BJP and Congress face to face on Protem Speaker

The Congress has even alleged that Kodikunnil Suresh was ignored by the BJP government because he/she belonged to the Dalit community. Sources in the opposition camp said Suresh, Baalu and Bandyopadhyay may not accept the role given to them. Responding to the opposition’s allegations, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju justified Mahtab’s appointment, saying the MP who has served the longest without any break is chosen for the post. he/she said Mahtab has been a member of the Lok Sabha seven times without any break. At present, if we exclude ministers, he/she is the longest serving member. he/she talked about K Suresh. he/she has a total of eight terms, but there were breaks in 2004 and 1998. There has been no violation, only those will feel (that there has been a violation) who have not read the system or its rules.

The controversy escalated even before the session began
The appointment of the pro tem speaker ahead of the first session of Parliament after the Lok Sabha elections has become a bone of contention between the government and the opposition. The opposition is already preparing to corner the government on a number of issues, including the NEET-NET case, the train accident in Bengal, the implementation of new criminal laws, the sudden surge in share prices after exit polls and their fall on the day of election results.
