India 185: Why did Bumrah choose to bat first on the grass pitch on which Brett Lee wanted to play tennis?: Why did Bumrah choose to bat first on the grass pitch on which Brett Lee wanted to play tennis?

New Delhi. Indian batsmen once again surrendered to Australia. Team India, trailing 1-2 in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series, collapsed for 185 runs in Sydney. There is no doubt that every Indian fan is blaming the batsmen for this. However, very few people are asking why captain Jasprit Bumrah decided to bat first on a pitch where there was enough grass to play a tennis match.

The fifth Test between India and Australia is being played in Sydney. India entered this match without its regular captain Rohit Sharma. As soon as it was known that Rohit was not playing in this match, all the veteran commentators started praising him/her. They started calling him/her a selfless cricketer. It was left behind in Rohit Puran that why India decided to bowl first on a field where there was huge grass. In the pitch report, Sunil Gavaskar clearly said that the amount of grass here was not seen in the last four matches. It was clearly said that this is not a traditional pitch of Sydney, where spinners are helped.

Brett Lee, while commentating on Fox Sports, even said that he/she would have liked to play tennis on this pitch. Sunil Gavaskar also clearly said, ‘If we had bowled first and taken advantage of the pitch and bowled out Australia for 170 runs, we would have got the advantage. If India had batted on the second day after this, it might have got a pitch with less grass. It wouldn’t have made much difference, but batting would have been a little easier on the second day. However, there will be help for the bowlers on the second day also.
