IND vs ZIM T20: Fight between 4 batsmen for 2 places in Team India, it will be clear by the end of July

New Delhi. There will be a battle again between the cricket teams of India and Zimbabwe on Saturday. Both the teams will face each other in the fourth T20 match of the 5-match series on this day. If India wins, the series will be in its name. If Zimbabwe wins, the series will be tied at 2-2. Amidst this battle of the series, an interesting battle will also be seen between 4 players in Team India. This battle is to secure a place in the opening slot in the Indian team. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rituraj Gaikwad and Abhishek Sharma are included in this battle along with captain Shubman Gill. The fourth T20 match between India and Zimbabwe is to be played on Saturday, July 13.

India defeated South Africa on 29 June to win the T20 World Cup and capture the ICC trophy. But soon after this victory, India suffered not one or two but three setbacks. First Virat Kohli said goodbye to the T20 format and after this Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja did the same. This left two places vacant in the top order of the Indian team. Especially the opening slot. There is positive competition among the Indian players who went on the Zimbabwe tour to occupy this slot.

Shubman Gill is the current captain of the Indian team and is also senior to the other three opening players Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rituraj Gaikwad and Abhishek Sharma. he/she may have given up opening in the Test format and started batting at number three, but this is not the case in white ball. Shubman has been opening in T20 and ODI matches and would like to do so in the future as well. After Rohit Sharma’s retirement, Shubman is trying his/her best to get the opening slot.

Yashasvi Jaiswal joined the Indian team after two matches against Zimbabwe. As soon as Yashasvi came, he/she got the opening slot in Team India. Despite scoring a century in the second T20 match, Abhishek Sharma was pushed to number three. From many of our colleagues in the newsroom to millions of cricket lovers active on social media, everyone felt that there would be no change in the batting order of Abhishek who scored a century. Narratives like Sharma (Abhishek) instead of Sharma (Rohit) started trending on social media. But the team management knows that Yashasvi has a right over Abhishek in the opening slot. And why only Abhishek, even before Shubman because Yashasvi is opening for India in the Test format.

Compared to Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rituraj Gaikwad, Abhishek Sharma and Rituraj Gaikwad’s claim on the opening slot seems relatively weak. Both of them will have to work harder to make a place in the team (which has all the major players). Abhishek may have got a chance to open and bat at number three against Zimbabwe, but when stars like Rishabh Pant and Suryakumar Yadav return to the team, the combination will change. Rituraj Gaikwad will also not get a place at number three and four easily.

It is possible that the Indian team will give a chance to young faces on the Sri Lanka tour starting from July 27, but this will not happen in a big series. As the T20 World Cup comes closer, the key players will be given a chance in the team. In such a situation, if we talk about the Indian players who went on the Zimbabwe tour, then only Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal’s place seems to be confirmed in the team. Shivam Dubey and Sanju Samson also have a strong claim in the middle order. But the young players will have to wait to get a place.
