IND vs NZ: Why did Rohit Sharma not play Shubman Gill in the first test? What was this compulsion?

Rohit Sharma said during the toss, “We are going to bat first. I think it might be a bit sticky in the beginning but the pitch is such that you would want to get runs on the board first. We have performed well in the last few test matches. This is a new series for us and we want to make a good start. There have been two changes from the last test. Gill is out. Sarfaraz has come in his/her place. Kuldeep has come in place of Akash.

According to the team report, Shubman Gill has stiffness in his/her neck. Because of this he/she has not come to play the match. Gill had performed brilliantly in the test series against Bangladesh. he/she also scored a century. In the second test, Gill returned unbeaten after scoring 119 runs in 176 balls with the help of 10 fours and 4 sixes.
