Ind vs Aus: Sunil Gavaskar angry at R Ashwin, said- should not retire now, Dhoni also…

New DelhiVeteran batsman Sunil Gavaskar on Wednesday criticized Ravichandran Ashwin for the timing of his/her retirement from international cricket, saying that he/she could have waited till the end of the series against Australia as the Indian team is short one member for the next two Test matches. It is done. Ashwin surprised everyone by announcing his/her retirement from international cricket after the end of the third Test match.

Gavaskar said, “he/she could have said, look, after the series ends, I will not be available for selection in the Indian team.” Mahendra Singh Dhoni had also retired in a similar manner after the third Test match during the 2014–15 series. This reduces one member in the team. There is a reason why the selection committee has selected so many players for this tour. If any player gets injured, he/she can select any of the reserve players in the team.

The former Indian captain said that Ashwin could have played his/her role in the fifth and final Test match to be held in Sydney. The spinners have been getting help from the wicket of Sydney Cricket Ground. Gavaskar said, “Sydney is a place where spinners get a lot of help. India can play with two spinners there. he/she should have been in the team for that match. I don’t know what the Melbourne pitch will be like. Usually your attention goes to the last match of the series.

Gavaskar was asked whether Washington Sundar is being groomed to replace Ashwin, he/she said, “I think Washington Sundar is ahead of him/her.” Rohit (Sharma) told that he/she (Ashwin) is returning home tomorrow. So this is the end of Ashwin as an international cricketer. he/she was an excellent cricketer.
