IND Vs AUS: Series could have been 2-1 but… Captain expressed regret after Gabba Test

New Delhi. The third match of Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia was drawn due to rain. The Indian team, which returned after losing the Pink Ball Test match, won the toss and decided to bowl first and the Kangaroos took full advantage of it. Thanks to left-handed batsman Travis Head, Steve Smith’s century and wicket keeper Alex Carey’s half-century, the team’s score reached 445 runs. In reply, Team India had a bad start and at one time the team lost 4 of its batsmen for 51 runs. From India’s side, KL Rahul, Jadeja scored half-centuries and Bumrah and Akash Deep’s excellent last wicket partnership saved the team from follow-on and took the score to 260.

After saving the follow-on, Australia came to bat on the last day of the match and scored 89 runs at the loss of 7 wickets and gave India a target of 275 runs in 54 overs. The Indian team, which came to chase the target, played only 2.1 overs and scored 8 runs and then it rained once again and finally the umpire declared the match a draw. After the end of the match, when both the captains were asked about the match being a draw, Australia captain Pat Cummins expressed regret and said that this was a good opportunity for his/her team to take a 2-1 lead. They are disappointed at not being able to do so.

What did Pat Cummins say after the match
After the end of the match, Australia captain said, ‘It would have been better to be 2-1, it rained a lot, we can’t do anything about it. We scored a big score and throughout the game it felt like we were ahead. Poor Josh (Hazlewood), Starc and I were able to move on. There can be ups and downs on the fifth day here, not much cricket has been played on it, when the ball was new and hard it felt challenging. The innings of Smith and Head were excellent, so was Alex Carey. Lion seemed to be in rhythm, Starc took wickets. Ticked almost every box. Now the fourth match of Border-Gavaskar Trophy i.e. Boxing Day Test match will start from 26th December. In such a situation, it has to be seen whether Team India will be able to take a 2-1 lead in this series or whether the Australian team will once again be seen in its old form?
