Ind vs Aus: ‘his/her last test…’ What did Gavaskar say about Rohit Sharma? Shastri also predicted

New Delhi. Former Indian cricketers Sunil Gavaskar and Ravi Shastri believe that the Boxing Day Test was probably Rohit Sharma’s last Test. Rohit Sharma has kept himself out of the fifth and final Test against Australia. 37 year old Rohit has decided to rest himself in the fifth test. Rohit could score only 31 runs in five innings of three matches.

Gavaskar said during the lunch break during the first day’s play, “If India does not qualify for the World Test Championship final, then the Melbourne Test will be Rohit’s last Test. We probably saw Rohit Sharma playing Test for the last time.” The World Test Championship season will start with the series against England and the selectors will want a player who can play the 2027 final. Whether India reaches there or not is a matter for later but this will be the thinking of the selection committee.

Ind vs Aus: ‘I am sure but the umpire…’ What did Steve Smith say on not giving out to Kohli?

Shastri said, “Even before I asked at the time of the toss, Jasprit Bumrah said that the captain has decided to stay out and said that the team will be stronger with the play of Shubman Gill. This is what happens when you are not scoring runs. It is a very courageous decision of the captain that he/she agreed to stay out in this match. If the domestic season had started, he/she could have thought of playing further but I think he/she will retire after this Test.”

Let us tell you that India is behind 1-2 in the series and to retain the Border Gavaskar Trophy, it has to win the Sydney Test at any cost. If the team loses here then all hopes of reaching the WTC final will be lost.
