However, Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey is hopeful that Mitchell Starc will play in the Sydney Test despite the pain. The fifth and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar series will be played in Sydney from January 3.

The fitness of 34-year-old Mitchell Starc remains a matter of concern for the Australian team. This left arm fast bowler has been suffering from pain in his/her ribs since the third day of the Boxing Day Test. However, with the help of the physio, he/she was successful in bowling. “he/she’s going to be OK,” Alex Carey said Wednesday. It is expected that he/she will play the fifth test match. Australian selectors can take a decision on Starc’s fitness a day before the Test match. Meanwhile, Carey said that he/she is not worried about the fitness of his/her teammate. Earlier, team coach Andrew McDonald had said that Starc is suffering from pain, but he/she is expected to play in the Sydney Test.

Alex Carey said, ‘I have been playing with him/her (Starc) for a long time. he/she is a strong player. Of course, he/she has pain in his/her rib and it bothers him/her at times but I am confident that he/she will be ready to play by the next match.

If Starc is rested, then fast bowler Jhye Richardson, who played his/her last Test match in December 2021, can be included in the team. Richardson said about the possibility of being selected in the team, ‘I am not thinking about it but if I get a chance, I will try my best to take advantage of it.’
