According to Japan’s National Police Agency, the bodies of about 4,000 people were found a month after their death and the bodies of 130 people remained missing for about a year.

Most elderly people live in Japan

According to the United Nations, Japan is one of the countries that currently has the largest elderly population in the world. In such a situation, loneliness is a serious problem with them. Data from the National Police Agency, taken from the first half of 2024, shows that a total of 37,227 people living alone were found dead at home, of which more than 70% were elderly people aged 65 and above.

According to the report, an estimated 40% of people who died of loneliness died alone at home. Their bodies were found within a day. About 3,939 bodies were found more than a month after death, and 130 bodies were discovered a year after death.

Population is decreasing in Japan, birth rate is not increasing

The number of dead bodies of people aged between 70 and 74 years is 5,635. Along with this, while a large number of people are dying of loneliness in Japan, the birth rate here is also decreasing significantly.
