Important news for Indians working in Saudi Arabia, new rules released for ‘Iqama’ renewal

Saudi Arabia Iqama: Saudi Arabia has made a major change in the rules of ‘Iqama’ (residency permit) renewal and exit-reentry visa extension for expatriates living here. The country’s General Directorate of Passports announced on social media platform There are about 25 lakh Indians living in Saudi Arabia.
Actually, foreigners living in Saudi Arabia are given a residency permit, which is called Iqama. It allows foreign citizens to live and work in the country. When an Indian worker comes to live in Saudi, he/she is allowed to bring his/her family members or servants to the country. For them also Iqama has to be taken. The government of Saudi Arabia has also allowed expatriates living outside the country to extend the period of their single or multiple exit-reentry visas.

Where to apply online?

The reason for this decision of the Saudi Arabian government is that expatriates will get the facility to complete important administrative work online without staying in the country. Iqama can be renewed through the electronic platforms Absher and Muqeem portal of the Ministry of Home Affairs. Also, these platforms will have to be used to extend the duration of visa. To avail these facilities on the online platform, necessary application fees will also have to be paid.

Iqama is very important to live in Saudi Arabia, because without it you can neither use bank accounts nor buy a mobile SIM. According to the Indian Embassy, the company has to provide accommodation within 90 days of the employee’s arrival in Saudi Arabia. If this is not done then the employee should immediately contact the Ministry of Labor of Saudi Arabia. Iqama is also important because sometimes the police or other officials may ask for this document from you. Therefore, this document must be obtained as soon as you reach Saudi Arabia.
