Canada will give visas to more students than foreign workers

Canada will grant study permits to 3,05,900 foreign students every year in 2025, 2026 and 2027. On the contrary, the visas given to temporary foreign workers will be reduced every year. 3,67,750 visas will be given in 2025, 2,10,700 visas in 2026 and 2,37,700 visas in 2027. This means that a large number of temporary residents coming to the country in 2026 and 2027 will be foreign students.

People will get PR easily

In the plan made for 2025-2027, more emphasis is on giving permanent residence i.e. PR to the people present in the country, be they workers or students. All these people will be given in-Canada focus category Permanent Residency i.e. PR. For 2025, IRCC has estimated that it is going to grant permanent residency to 40 percent of the people who are already living in the country as foreign workers or students.

Cuts in Provincial Nominee Program (PNPs)

Under the immigration plan, entry into the country through PNP will be reduced. In 2025, the government is going to allow only 55,000 people to live in the country under PNP. In 2024, this number was increased to 1,10,000 people, while in 2025, 1,20,000 people were allowed to enter the country. Students who want to obtain permanent residency in the country through PNP will now have to face a lot of challenges.

More emphasis on French language

IRCC wants to bring to Canada mostly people who know the French language. The aim of the government is to settle French speaking people in other states of the country besides Quebec province. 8.5% in 2025, 9.5% in 2026 and 10% in 2027 will be given to people who know French. For this reason, students must learn French to obtain permanent residency.

Importance of demanding jobs

Canada announced category-based selection draw in 2023. Under this, skilled workers in fields related to healthcare, STEM, trade and transport were easily given visas. Its objective was to overcome the shortage of workers in these sectors. Now the priority has been changed in 2025. It will be easy to get visa in healthcare and trade related fields.
