New Delhi : Cyclonic storm ‘Remal’ hit the coast of Bangladesh at midnight on Sunday. After this the cyclone is moving towards the coast in West Bengal. The effects of Cyclone Ramal have started becoming visible in West Bengal. Rain has started in Kolkata with strong winds. A tree fell near Sagar Bypass Road amid heavy rains and strong winds in Sagadweep area in the state. After this the NDRF team cleared the road.

The process will continue for four hours

Meteorological Department officials said that the process of reaching Remal will continue for four hours. “The cyclone started crossing India’s West Bengal coast via the south-western part of Mongla in Bangladesh,” a meteorological department official said. In view of the arrival of cyclonic storm ‘Remal’ in the coastal areas of West Bengal, more than one lakh people have been evacuated from various areas to safe places.

The low pressure system formed over the Bay of Bengal has transformed into cyclonic storm ‘Remal’. The storm will move forward today, Sunday (May 26) at midnight, i.e. in the next 3 hours, hitting the coast between Sagardweep in West Bengal and Khepupara in Bangladesh.

Wind speed will be higher in the morning

Somnath Dutta, head of the eastern region of the Meteorological Department in Kolkata, said that winds will blow at a speed of 45 to 55 kilometers per hour in many districts of South Bengal, which will affect Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly and East Medinipur. By Monday morning, the wind speed in the coastal areas of West Bengal can reach 100-120 km per hour up to 135 km per hour. The Meteorological Department has warned of major damage to weak buildings, power and communication lines, unpaved roads, crops and gardens in South and North 24 Parganas districts of West Bengal.
