The convenience provided by mobile has definitely made people’s lives easier, but do you know how much harm it has caused? The blue light emitted from smartphones, computers, TVs and laptops proves to be very dangerous for us. Most of us look at our phones for hours every day, which affects not only our eyes but also our overall health.

How harmful is blue light?

Constant exposure to blue light can damage retinal cells. This increases the risk of cataracts and eye cancer. According to a vision study by the National Eye Institute, children are at greater risk than adults. This is because their eyes absorb more blue light. People also blink less while using digital devices, which increases the risk of eye strain.

Blue light has the most effect in the dark of night. Most people use their phones in a dark room an hour or two before going to bed. Many people believe that this relieves their day’s fatigue. But this is not so. Exposure to blue light before sleeping can disturb sleep patterns. Disturbances in the circadian system cause problems like type 2 diabetes, heart disease, cancer and sleep disorders.
