‘If the farmers had gone to Parliament instead of Red Fort, India would have become like Bangladesh…’, what kind of words are these by Rakesh Tikait?

New Delhi : About three and a half years ago, there was a riot at the Red Fort on Republic Day. The farmers’ movement had turned violent and anarchist elements had caused a lot of disturbance under the guise of the movement. Now reminding of that incident, farmer leader Rakesh Tikait has said that if the farmers had gone to Parliament instead of the Red Fort with tractors that day, India would have become like Bangladesh that day. he/she was referring to the then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigning and fleeing the country amid protests, violence and disturbance in Bangladesh recently. The video of Tikait’s statement is being widely circulated on social media.

Rakesh Tikait also raised questions on the nationwide discussion on the Kolkata RG Kar Medical College case. he/she said, ‘When rape and murder took place, a case of rape and murder was registered against them. But highlighting it across the country, is it a conspiracy to defame the governments? Brother, the man who has been in power for 15 years in Bangladesh, all the people of the opposition are locked up in jails…the same situation will be here. he/she (PM Narendra Modi) cannot be found here. The public is very angry. When he/she went to Delhi with a tractor that day, he/she did not mislead them to go to the Red Fort, if he/she had directed them towards the Parliament that day…it was 26 January that day. There were 25 lakh people, so all this work would have been settled on that day. This mistake was made. Now preparations are on, don’t worry about the public. It will happen. It will definitely happen…we are ready.’

BJP has attacked the leaders of India Alliance over this statement of Tikait. Party spokesperson Shahzad Poonawala said that threats are being given to do the same here as in Bangladesh, which is shameful. he/she asked whether this is saving the Constitution?
