If something happens who is responsible? Supreme Court asked Punjab government on Dallewal’s fast

New Delhi : On Saturday, the Supreme Court once again took a strict stand in the fast case of farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal. The court gave the Punjab government time till December 31 to convince Dallewal to get admitted to the hospital. The vacation bench of the Supreme Court pulled up the Punjab government during the hearing. The court said that it had failed to comply with previous instructions and provide medical aid to Dallewal. The court has held the government responsible for the worsening of the situation. he/she also said that if God forbids something happens, who will be responsible for it?

Dallewal is on hunger strike for a month

Dallewal has been on hunger strike at Khanauri border for more than a month demanding various demands including legal guarantee of MSP and has refused to take any kind of medical aid, such as drip etc. Dallewal says that doing so will weaken the purpose of the farmers’ movement. At the same time, during the hearing, the Punjab government expressed helplessness and said that it was facing huge opposition from the farmers while convincing Dallewal for treatment. Obstacles are being created in taking Dallewal to the hospital for treatment. On this, Justice Surya Kant said, do you want us to record that you are helpless? This statement can bring serious consequences for a constitutional government.

Court is strict on those who stop Dallewal from treatment

Meanwhile, Punjab Advocate General Gurminder Singh informed the bench that a team of medical experts visited the protest site and tried to convince Dallewal to get admitted to the hospital and seek medical help. On this, the court said angrily that the farmer leaders who were stopping Dallewal from being taken to the hospital could be responsible for the crime of inciting a suicide attempt.

The court said that if God forbid something happens, who will be responsible? The court said that Dallewal was probably under ‘social pressure’ and the people who were stopping him/her from going to the hospital did not appear to be his/her well-wishers. Punjab government should take action in this matter and follow the directions of the court. The Supreme Court also said that if needed, the state government can take any necessary assistance from the central government. The Supreme Court will now hear the compliance report again on December 31.
