If Pakistan does not agree to the hybrid model, the entire Champions Trophy may be held in this country, ICC awaits reply.

Karachi. After India’s refusal to go to Pakistan, PCB’s hosting of Champions Trophy 2025 is under threat. After India’s refusal, ICC has sought answers from Pakistan regarding hosting the tournament in hybrid model. The PCB had confirmed on Sunday that it had received an email from the ICC that the Indian team would not go to Pakistan.

A source said, ‘If the PCB does not back out from hosting all the Champions Trophy matches, then it is certain that India’s matches will be held in UAE and the final in Dubai. The Indian Cricket Board has told the ICC that the hybrid model is acceptable to it provided the final is held in Dubai and not in Pakistan. PCB did not comment on this decision of BCCI on Monday. But according to sources, ICC has asked PCB whether it is acceptable to the hybrid model in which India’s matches and the final will be played in Dubai. ICC also said that under this it will get the entire hosting fee and most of the matches.

The source said that in case of PCB’s refusal to host the tournament, the entire tournament can be held in South Africa. Earlier, a source in the Pakistan Cricket Board had said that it will seek clarification from the ICC regarding hosting the Champions Trophy as it has only been told that the Indian team will not come for the tournament but no information has been given on the proposal of hybrid model.

An informed source of PCB had said, ‘There has been no talk about holding the Champions Trophy on hybrid model.’ Last year, a hybrid model was adopted in the Asia Cup when India’s matches were played in Sri Lanka and all the remaining matches were played in Pakistan. The source said, ‘The PCB, after talking to its legal advisors, will send an email to the ICC seeking clarification on India’s decision. The PCB is in touch with the government for advice and instructions if necessary.

Meanwhile, there is speculation in the Pakistani media that the Pakistan government may advise the PCB to avoid playing India or take legal action against the ICC and BCCI in the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The Indian team has not toured Pakistan since the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. Both the teams play each other only in ICC tournaments. (Input PTI)
