New Delhi. Every day new names are emerging regarding the new head coach of the Indian cricket team. According to some reports, KKR mentor Gautam Gambhir is at the forefront in the race for the new coach of Team India. However, nothing clear has been said by BCCI on this yet. A few days ago, the names of Ricky Ponting and Justin Langer were also in the headlines but BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has made it clear that the Board has not contacted any Australian cricketers. Jay Shah says that he/she wants to hand over the reins of Team India to a person who has a deep understanding of Indian cricket and also knows about India’s domestic cricket. Now the question arises here that if not Rahul Dravid then what is missing in Gautam Gambhir? Who can understand our cricket structure more than him/her?

One thing has become clear from the statement of BCCI Secretary Jai Shah that the Indian Cricket Board wants to make only an Indian as the head coach of Team India. Rahul Dravid’s tenure will end after the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. he/she does not want to extend his/her contract with the Indian team. Gautam Gambhir is currently the mentor of KKR. Under his/her mentorship, the KKR team has reached the finals of IPL 2024 where it has to play Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday. Before this, Gambhir has made KKR champion twice under his/her captaincy. he/she has been a part of the world winning team. Yes, it is true that he/she does not have coaching experience on the international stage but he/she understands Indian cricket.

If Gautam Gambhir is made the coach of Team India, it will definitely benefit the Indian team. he/she has experience of playing 147 ODI, 58 Test and 37 T20 International matches. he/she has played more than 500 domestic matches. This is a plus point with Gauti. he/she knows the young players coming from different states very well. he/she is also in contact with many of them. Perhaps no one can understand our cricket structure better than him/her.

BCCI had invited applications for the new head coach on May 13. The last date to apply is 27th May. It is being told that BCCI itself had contacted Gautam Gambhir for the coach. However, no official statement has come from Gautam Gambhir on this. Gambhir has also been the coach of Lucknow Super Giants in IPL. Under his/her supervision, LSG was successful in making it to the playoffs in 2022 and 2023. The team with which Gambhir has worked so far has performed miraculously.
