If brain aneurysm is serious, surgery has to be done, do not ignore the symptoms.


Headache is common and it happens to everyone often but not every type of headache is normal. Many times, headache indicates a serious condition. In such a situation, we should not ignore it. Here we are talking about brain aneurysm which can affect a person of any age. This can lead to brain stroke, brain damage or even sudden death of the person. In brain aneurysm, a balloon-like structure is formed on a blood vessel of the brain and it looks like a berry hanging on a tree. The swollen blood vessel may leak and even burst.

What is brain aneurysm?

It is also called intracranial aneurysm or cerebral aneurysm. This is a type of stroke which can be fatal. In brain aneurysm, no specific symptoms are visible nor any physical condition is felt. It can be detected only through medical test.

The headache caused by brain aneurysm is not like a normal headache. Apart from this, some other problems can also occur like-

  • sudden severe headache
  • vomiting
  • Nervousness
  • stiff neck
  • double or blurred vision
  • being sensitive to light
  • be confused

Brain aneurysm mostly occurs in people above 40 years of age. This problem can also occur in children. However, the risk of brain aneurysm is higher in women than in men.

  • older age
  • smoking cigarettes
  • high blood pressure
  • excessive alcohol consumption
  • use of drugs like cocaine

Symptoms of leaking aneurysm

Due to leaking aneurysm i.e. rupture of artery, a person may get severe headache. Apart from this, it also has some other symptoms like-

  • pain above or behind the eye
  • dilated pupils
  • blurred vision
  • numbness of one side of the mouth
  • unconsciousness

If someone in the patient’s family has already had the problem of brain aneurysm, then the doctor can get some tests done if its symptoms appear. This includes CT scan and MRI. Doctors treat brain aneurysm based on its location, severity and size. Special care is also taken to determine how damaged the brain artery is. Doctors can give some medicines to cure headache and eye pain. Apart from this, surgery can also be decided according to its condition.
