It is said that in this study which started 100 years ago, questions were asked from more than 10 thousand families. Professor Dr. Robert Weldner, one of Harvard’s longest-standing happiness researchers, says that when someone becomes the reason for our happiness, accepting his/her goodness and speaking loving words is called gratitude.

The word thank you sounds very simple but its impact is very deep. Saying thank you for every good thing, expressing gratitude is also the foundation of physical and mental wellbeing.

In this research, the participants were asked to write a letter expressing their gratitude. They had to write a ‘thank you note’ to someone close to them, because of whom something better happened in their life. It was found that while writing a thank you letter and reading it to someone close to them, the happiness of the participants increased rapidly. In such a situation, saying thank you had a direct connection with happiness. Not only this, the level of stress hormone cortisol of the participants decreased by 23%.

Saying thank you benefits both the person saying it and the listener. When we like something someone says or he/she does something good for us, saying thank you makes us feel happy from within. It also creates a positive effect in the mind of the listener. Apart from this, the relationship with that person also becomes good.
