I am yours and for you… Rahul Gandhi’s message after becoming the leader of the opposition

New Delhi: After becoming the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi released a video and thanked the opposition colleagues. he/she released a video and said, “I heartily thank the people of the country, Congress workers and colleagues of India for showing faith in me. Leader of the opposition is not just a post – it is a huge responsibility to become your voice and fight for your interests and rights.”

“I am yours and only for you”
Rahul Gandhi said, ‘Our Constitution is the biggest weapon of the poor, the deprived, the minorities, the farmers, the labourers and we will protect it by responding with full force to every attack on it. I am yours and I am for you only.’


Lok Sabha speaker recognized him/her as leader of opposition
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Wednesday officially recognised former Congress President Rahul Gandhi as the Leader of Opposition in the House. Rahul Gandhi’s status as the Leader of Opposition will be effective from June 9, 2024. This time he/she is representing Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh in the Lok Sabha. Congress Parliamentary Party chief Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday sent a letter to Lok Sabha’s Acting Speaker (Pro tem Speaker) Bhartruhari Mahtab informing him/her about the Congress’ decision that Rahul Gandhi will be the Leader of Opposition.

Rahul Gandhi will get cabinet status
As the leader of the opposition, Gandhi will now be given the status of a cabinet minister. This will also increase his/her place in the protocol list. As the leader of the opposition, he/she will also be a member of important panels on key appointments such as Lokpal, Chief Election Commissioner and Election Commissioners, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Director, besides selection related to Central Vigilance Commission, Central Information Commission and National Human Rights. The Prime Minister is the head of these panels.

You will get the benefit of these government facilitiesBesides receiving salary and other perks and allowances as specified in Section 3 of the Salary, Allowances and Pension of Members of Parliament Act, 1954, Rahul Gandhi as an MP will be entitled to the assistance of a secretary in the same status and pay scale and personal staff as a Cabinet minister. Gandhi will also be entitled to one private secretary, two additional private secretaries, two assistant private secretaries, two personal assistants, one Hindi steno, one clerk, one sweeper and four Class IV employees. he/she will get constituency allowance at the same rate for the period specified under Section 8 of the 1954 Act, besides the sumptuary allowance.
