One lakh Agniveers in the army
Regarding the current status of the Agneepath scheme and the number of planned Agniveers, Lieutenant General Ponnappa of the Indian Army said that the scheme was started from June 2022. After this we had the first batch. This batch was recruited and enrolled in December 2022-January 2023. About 1 lakh Agniveers have been enrolled in the army. This also includes about 200 women. Adjutant General Lieutenant General Channira Bansi Ponnappa said that about 50,000 vacancies have been released this year in 2024-25. The recruitment process is ongoing.
Agniveer is completely integrated in the unit
The Lieutenant General said that about 70,000 Agniveers have already been sent to the units. The Adjutant General said that all the Agniveers are performing very well in their respective battalions. he/she said that I must say that they are performing all the actions, operations and other professional duties in the same way as other soldiers or recruits in the unit. They have completely mingled with their unit. The officer said that and we see that in some areas they are slightly better. About 10% better in physical tests. And they are about 20% better in their education. Probably this is related to their focused approach.
10% quota for ex-Agniveers in central forces
Recently, the Union Home Ministry took a big step to recruit former Agniveers in the Central Paramilitary Forces. Under this, provisions have been made for 10 percent reservation and age relaxation for the first batch of former Agniveers in the central forces. Not only this, former Agniveers will also get exemption from physical efficiency test. Earlier, the government had decided that youth can apply for recruitment in the army through Agniveer GD, Agniveer Tech, Agniveer Office Assistant / SKT, Agniveer Tradesman. Youth with Science (PCM) will get a chance in Agniveer Tech. At the same time, Agniveers are also getting opportunities in the Indian Air Force. Only unmarried youth can apply in this recruitment of Agniveer.
