How can the government itself become a part of the investigation… Congress takes a jibe at the government regarding the Adani case.

New Delhi : Citing a statement of the Ministry of External Affairs regarding the Adani Group, the Congress on Saturday took a dig at how the government itself can become a part of the investigation. On the matter related to Adani Group, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal had said on Friday that the Indian government was not informed about the issue in advance. he/she had said that it is a matter related to private companies and individuals and the US Justice Department. It is a legal matter. There are established procedures and legal methods in such cases, we believe they will be followed. Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh, citing the spokesperson’s statement, said in a post on ‘X’, ‘The spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs said that the Government of India is not a part of the US investigation of Adani Group. he/she has just stated the obvious.

How is the government itself part of the investigation?

Earlier, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal had said that the Indian government was not informed about the issue in advance. The first official reaction came after prosecutors in the US accused the industrialist of alleged fraud.

In this, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal had said that India has not yet received any communication for cooperation in the matter. he/she said that the Government of India is not a part of the matter in any way at present.

What was the answer given to the question of warrant?

On a question whether the US has sent any summons or warrant on the Adani case, he/she said India has not received any such request. Jaiswal said any request made by a foreign government for execution of a summons or arrest warrant is part of mutual legal assistance. Such requests are examined on merits. But we have not received any request from America in this matter.

US prosecutors have charged Adani, 62, his/her nephew Sagar and other defendants with paying bribes to Indian officials worth more than US $ 250 million between 2020 and 2024 to secure solar energy contracts on terms that . This could yield a profit of more than two billion US dollars.
