HNLC organization active in Meghalaya declared illegal, Central government banned for 5 years, know the reason

New Delhi: The Union Home Ministry has declared the HNLC organization active in Meghalaya as illegal. Hyniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) has been banned for the next five years, declaring it illegal to engage in activities against the country. In this case, the Home Ministry issued a notification saying that the government took this action using the powers granted by sub-section (1) of Section 3 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (37 of 1967). Declaring this organization and all its factions, branches and leading organizations as unlawful organizations, it has been banned from November 16 for the next five years.

This is why the Home Ministry imposed the ban

The Home Ministry said that the HNLC organization along with its factions, branches and other organizations has been involved in such activities in the areas of the state of Meghalaya. Which is a threat to the unity, integrity and sovereignty of India. This organization covers those areas of Meghalaya state where people of Khasi and Jaintia tribes mostly live. Tried to separate them from India.

Allegation of extortion through intimidation

This organization extorted money by intimidating people to enhance its image and for its activities. For this, this organization should maintain relations with other rebel groups in the North-Eastern region. The organization was involved in 48 various incidents, including several incidents of explosions or possession of explosives and violence, in the state of Meghalaya during 16 November 2019 to 30 June 2024. During this period, 73 of its cadres were arrested and three cadres also surrendered.

Central government issued notification

The notification said that the Central Government is also of the opinion that this organization, while engaged in the above activities, is a threat to the unity, integrity and sovereignty of India. It is very important to stop it in time and keep it under control. Otherwise it will regroup, arm itself and expand its cadres against the country.

Due to this, there is a danger of damage to the lives and properties of the citizens and security forces of the country. In this way this organization can intensify its anti-national activities. Therefore, this organization is declared illegal and further restrictions are imposed on it for the next five years.
