he/she is going to be a great player, Ponting called Bumrah the best

New Delhi. Veteran captain Ricky Ponting has praised India’s fast bowler Jaspreet Bumrah. Ponting says that the way Bumrah has returned to the field after injury is commendable. Former Australian batsman Ponting said that he/she is the best bowler to play in many formats in the last five or six years. Ponting said that there may be some concerns about Bumrah’s long-term play but he/she has always made a strong comeback after recovering from injuries.

Ricky Ponting said on ‘ICC Review’, ‘I have been saying this for a long time that Jasprit Bumrah is probably the best bowler in world cricket for the last five or six years, playing in many formats. A few years ago when he/she got injured, there was some fear that ‘will he/she be able to perform like before? But I think he/she has really performed better after coming back. The best way to always get the right information about these players is to ask (other) players. And when you talk to the opposition batsmen about him/her (Bumrah), the answer is always ‘No, he/she is a nightmare!’ You never know what is going to happen.

Who is that batsman? Who made so many runs in 1 over, nobody would even think in their dreams

‘Nothing has changed in Bumrah’
By taking 15 wickets in the T20 World Cup, Bumrah played an important role in India’s title win. And Ponting praised the 30-year-old Bumrah. Ponting said, ‘Some ball will swing, some will seam, he/she will bowl in-swing, he/she will bowl out-swing. If I look at his/her performance in the T20 World Cup – the speed is still the same, nothing has changed in accuracy or what he/she can give. The skill is also the same. he/she is getting better year after year. When you have the skill and consistency that he/she has, you are going to become a great player.’

Example given to McGrath and Anderson
Ricky Ponting gave the example of compatriot former fast bowler Glenn McGrath and England fast bowler James Anderson, who recently retired from international cricket. Ponting said, “Look at McGrath, look at (James) Anderson, look at these people. Their skill has lasted for such a long time which sets them apart from others.”
