‘he/she did not take the first step… Jaishankar made Karnataka government listen in Prajwal Revanna passport case


New Delhi : External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Friday refuted allegations of protecting Janata Dal Secular MP Prajwal Revanna. The External Affairs Minister revealed that the Ministry of External Affairs had received a request from the Karnataka government on May 21 itself to impound Revanna’s passport. The process of confiscating passports is done under a law called Passport Act. The Foreign Minister said that to do this we need a request from the judicial court or the police. The Ministry of External Affairs received this request from Karnataka only on 21 May. The Foreign Minister said that they (Karnataka government) did not take the first step.

The Foreign Minister said that we immediately took action on this. On 23rd May… After this we will have to follow a certain procedure and the process will start. Asked about the Congress government’s allegations against the BJP about saving Revanna, Jaishankar said, “They did not take the first step.” I mean, that’s not the first case where passports are being confiscated. The revelation came a day after Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah immediately requested for cancellation of JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna’s diplomatic passport, along with concerted efforts to ensure his/her return to India.

Revanna contesting elections from Hassan

The 33-year-old grandson of former PM HD Deve Gowda is the NDA candidate from Hassan Lok Sabha constituency. Revanna faces multiple allegations of sexual misconduct with multiple women. The FIR against Prajwal Revanna includes serious allegations like rape, sexual harassment, stripping of women. Along with this, there is also an allegation of forcibly videography of sexual acts to scare the victims. Emphasizing the urgency of the situation, Siddaramaiah stressed the need for decisive action by the Central government to ensure cooperation of the accused in legal proceedings.

Former PM warned grandson

Prajwal reportedly left for Germany on April 27, a day after Hasan’s voting. Revanna is still absconding. Interpol has also issued a Blue Corner Notice against Revanna. In this, information has been sought about his/her whereabouts. On Thursday, former Prime Minister and JDS patriarch HD Deve Gowda had also issued a warning to his/her grandson Prajwal Revanna to return to India and submit himself for the legal process.
