Has PM Modi convinced Putin to end the war, will Zelensky also give his/her approval during his/her Ukraine visit?

New Delhi: Narendra Modi is the first Prime Minister of India who is going on a visit to Ukraine for the first time. Ukraine came into existence in 1991 due to the disintegration of the Soviet Union. Since then no Indian Prime Minister has visited Ukraine. PM Modi was in Russia on 8-9 July last month. he/she participated in the 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Western countries did not like this attitude of PM Modi. However, Modi is now also going to Ukraine. There is only a gap of one and a half months between PM Modi’s visit to Russia and Ukraine. So is there any big sign behind this? Has Prime Minister Narendra Modi prepared the script for the end of the Russia-Ukraine war that started two and a half years ago? Has he/she got his/her script approved by Russian President Vladimir Putin and is now going to present it to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky? These questions are very serious because the world has expressed hope on Prime Minister Narendra Modi that if he/she wants, he/she can pave the way to end the Russia-Ukraine war.

The world has hope from PM Modi

Be it the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres or the heads of several powerful countries including the US, France, Germany, all have expressed their desire from time to time that India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi should take the initiative to end the Russia-Ukraine war. Everyone has considered Prime Minister Narendra Modi to be globally acceptable and fully suitable for mediation between Russia and Ukraine. But sources say that India will not mediate between Russia and Ukraine. Yes, both countries can and will exchange messages between each other. This is the language of diplomacy. In the world of diplomacy, such measured and precise words are used. As powerful leaders around the world openly accept that Modi is an influential personality on the world stage, then he/she went to Russia, so he/she would not be going to Ukraine only to maintain balance under some pressure? There must be some big purpose behind the visit to both countries at a gap of just one and a half months.

Ukraine said, only PM Modi can bring peace

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will reach Ukraine on August 23 and will meet President Volodymyr Zelensky there. After the war that started on February 24, 2022, he/she met Zelensky sometimes on the phone and sometimes in other programs, but Modi never visited Ukraine. Last month, Zelensky’s Chief of Staff Andriy Yermak had said in a phone conversation with India’s National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval that PM Modi can play an important role in establishing peace in Ukraine.

Modi has given a message of peace to Putin

India’s stand on the Russia-Ukraine war is that a solution that is acceptable to both countries can be the only solution through dialogue between the two countries. That is why the Foreign Ministry is saying that India will not mediate but will definitely share each other’s messages. PM Modi had clearly told President Putin in Russia that a solution cannot be found on the battlefield. Now he/she will put his/her point across to President Zelensky in a straightforward manner. The message issued by Zelensky’s office said that this is the first visit of the Indian Prime Minister in the history of our bilateral relations. During this time we will discuss bilateral and mutual cooperation issues. Many documents are also expected to be signed between Ukraine and India.

Zelensky became disappointed when he/she hugged Putin

Earlier, Zelensky had expressed disappointment over Modi hugging Putin. he/she had said that this has given a big setback to the peace efforts. In fact, a children’s hospital in Ukraine was destroyed by a Russian missile. 37 people were killed in the Russian attack, including three children, while 170 people including 13 children were injured. Zelensky’s wounds were fresh and when he/she saw the picture of Modi-Putin hugging, he/she expressed disappointment through a post on X. Then the US State Department spokesperson also expressed concern over India’s relationship with Russia.

Modi will have his/her fourth meeting with Zelensky

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has met Zelensky three times so far. Both have met twice after the war started. At the same time, in September 2022, Modi had told Putin that this is not the time for war, which was praised all over the world. Even at the Bali G-20 summit in 2022, this statement of Modi echoed loudly. India has sent at least 15 consignments of relief material since the war started.
