New Delhi. Jason Gillespie has resigned as the head coach of Pakistan’s Test team. he/she submitted his/her resignation to Pakistan Cricket Board. Gillespie decided to leave the team due to the arbitrariness of the Pakistan Cricket Board. That too when he/she had to fly to South Africa after an hour. A 2-match test series is to be played between Pakistan and South Africa. The first test match of the series will be played from 26 December. PCB has confirmed Gillespie’s resignation. In place of Gillespie, PCB hastily appointed its former fast bowler Aaqib Javed as interim coach for the South Africa tour. Javed is currently associated with Pakistan’s ODI team as an interim coach.

PCB has changed 6 coaches in the last 4 years. Jason Gillespie was made the head coach of Pakistan’s Test team in April this year. PCB had said at that time that Gillespie would remain the coach of Pakistan Test team for the next two years. But within eight months, this former Australian pacer submitted his/her resignation to the PCB. Gillespie’s resignation came at a time when Pakistan’s Test team was to leave for Dubai for the South Africa tour.

PCB did not extend Tim Nielsen’s contract
Jason Gillespie has resigned because the PCB had decided to fire assistant coach Tim Nielsen. Pakistan Cricket Board had included former Australian cricketer Tim Nielsen in the coaching staff of Pakistan’s Test team this year. Nielsen’s contract had expired after the Australia tour, which the PCB did not extend. Gillespie was very angry with this attitude of PCB. Apart from this, Gillespie was angry with many decisions of the PCB. Gillespie’s role in team selection was abolished by the PCB during the home Test series against England. he/she was not included in the panel while selecting the team.

Before Gillespie, in October this year, Pakistan’s white ball cricket team head coach Gary Kirsten had also resigned from his/her post. Within a year, Gillespie and Kirsten left the Pakistan team. Under Gillespie’s coaching, Pakistan lost 0-2 in the Test series against Bangladesh, while it won 2-1 in the home Test series against England. After Kirsten’s departure, he/she coached Pakistan’s ODI team in November, in which Pakistan went to Australia and won the 3-match series 2-1.
