Gurugram: Even after 3 months of hard work, seats remained vacant in colleges and ITI, know the reason

The Higher Education Department as well as the Skill Department were unable to fill the seats this time even after three months of hard work. While on one hand the Higher Education Department was busy with the process of first year admissions in the college, on the other hand the Skill Department was also seen completing the admission process for skill courses in Industrial Training Institute (ITI). Both failed in this. The process which started in June was completed by 31 August, but still 20 to 30 percent seats remained vacant this time.

Interested in colleges of other cities

There are five ITI’s in Gurugram district, in which 20 percent seats remained vacant. Similarly, 22 percent seats could not be filled in 10 colleges of the district. In this, more seats remained vacant in colleges of rural areas. The inclination of students was seen more in colleges of Delhi and other cities as compared to city colleges. Whereas, if we look at the number of students with pass percentage, this time the number of students who passed the 12th exam from different boards was quite high. But only 50 percent of them took admission in ITI or Government colleges.

Only a few percent of students have taken admission in government universities and private universities in the district. About 30 to 35 percent of the students of the district have shown interest in colleges in other cities instead of taking admission in Gurgaon. The portal was opened repeatedly for the students. But due to not getting seats in the subjects of their choice, the students did not take admission.

More passouts, less admissions

Around 30 thousand students of the city passed 12th this time. Whereas only about 13 thousand seats were filled for admission in government colleges and ITI. Many seats are vacant in this too. At the same time, only 500 seats were filled for graduation in Government University. The remaining three thousand admissions were made for post graduation.

Rohit Sharma, a teacher at Government College, Farrukhnagar Sultanpur, said that students showed some interest, but since it is a new college, the seats were not fully filled this time. The college got its own campus last year. In such a situation, it is expected that students will take admission in sufficient numbers in the coming years. At the same time, 50 percent of the seats remained vacant in Rithoj Government College.

Seats were not filled even in the three main colleges of the city. Here only the reserved seats were kept vacant, but if we look at the complete data, about 800 seats are vacant in Government Girls College, Dronacharya Government College, Government PG College located in Sector-9. Because these seats will not be converted. Principal of Government Girls College Jitendra Kumar said that the inclination of girl students is very high, in which girls from other cities also come to study in the college. It is difficult to convert the reserved seats.

There is less interest in many subjects in ITI

If we talk about ITI, a large number of seats for plumber, technician, turner remained vacant. At the same time, students were more inclined towards subjects like electrician, electronics, COPA. In girls ITI too, there were some trades like sewing, beautician, in which seats remained vacant.

Course needs to be updated

Educationist Ashok Diwakar said that there is a need to update the courses in colleges. Students take admission in those courses which have career prospects. Be it district colleges or ITI, there are many courses in all places where many courses are not updated or there is a need to start courses in these colleges keeping in view the industry.
